My dog has a very powerful jaw. Only a few things that he cannot destroy. We have had the peanut butter flavor that still looks the same that it did a year and a half ago. It is his version of a binky. He may leave it alone for days or weeks but every so often he needs to have his teeth and gums itched. Very few remnants of the bone left around.
