These were first introduced by Ernst Rhm on November 28, 1933, to be awarded to NSDAP members for physical proficiency. This particular example is the bronze grade variant but has since lost much of its finish. The reverse is marked "W. REDO, SAARLAUTERN", denoting production by Werner Redo of then named Saarlautern, Germany. The sword's reverse is marked "EIGENTUM
